What is the normal color of anal gland liquid?

my dogs is kinda brownish and smells really bad....it is staining my sheets, and my couch, and her chair.

What can I do to stop it?What is the normal color of anal gland liquid?
Yep that sounds like the same color...yucky and stinky topic I know...but my shepherd mix has the same problem.

Take your dog to the vet ask them to show you how to express the glands.

You may also ask about changing her diet. It seems a diet that produces a harder stool will express those glands during evacuation.

Here's what I have to do... about once every month or two. It's best to do this with dog in bathtub just in case. Donning the rubber glove usually sends our dog running...use a bit of KY Jelly and slowly/gently lift the tail - use a lot of reassuring words...then express both glands. There is one on each side of the anus. I hold a Kleenex and have a baby wipe handy to clean up. Be sure to rinse and clean tub after....that stuff is VERY potent and stinky.

Good luck. :PWhat is the normal color of anal gland liquid?
Does your dog scoot on her bum? If so she needs to have her anal glands expressed.

The color and smell you described is normal.

Some dogs have to have those glands manually expressed by the vet once every 6-8 weeks. Others don't ever have a problem with it.
You can have it done by a vet or somewhere like Pet's Mart in the grooming dept. Look it up on the internet you can do it yourself. The gland can get infected if not expressed my last dog had this happen and then its really a bloody mess and painful to the animal. The normal color is brownish and it does smell bad.
Can't stop it unless you have the glands surgically removed....BUT that's a last resort procedure for dogs that have chronic infections and glands that abscess and rupture repeatedly... there's a high risk of paralyzing the anal sphincter, which means that they can no longer hold their poop in and it just falls out as it forms. I'd rather deal with anal glands. See the vet and make sure she's not overly full or impacted or infected back there. If she's overweight, a diet would help her because fat dogs don't squat low enough when they poop outside to empty their anal glands. Adding a tablespoon or two of canned pumpkin to her food can help too, this adds fiber which makes the stool firmer. Firmer stool will help the glands empty better as it passes. You can freeze the canned pumpkin in an ice cube tray to make single servings.
the normal color is brown I would take he to the vet sounds like her anal glands are engorged %26amp; need to be cleaned out
